Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) is one of provinces in Indonesia which has large potential area for livestock business. The areas are found in several regencies such as Sumba Timur (East Sumba) and Timor Tengah Selatan (South Middle Timor). By utilizing pasture, Indonesian livestock business will have competitive price compare with those imported from other cuntries.
Grassing System is a cheap system in livestock business by giving unrestricted access to the animals to eat wherever and whenever they want. The suitable grass for this is one which very good quality grass (legume). Such grass will not be easily damaged by the animals. Good grass can grow alongside with other plants. The canopy is 25 - 30 centimeters after cutting off.
There are some methods of grassing systems: giving unrestricted access to the animal or limited access whether the area or the time. There are several kinds of pasture can be utilized for livestock business: natural pasture, permanent pasture, etc.
Many people raise livestock semi-grassing system. They put the animal on pasture in the morning and put them again in their cage in the afternoon. Grassing system is cheaper as the farmer do not need to provide expensive food.
